2. Heavy-Truck Market: Domestic Cool-Down, Exports +35%
-
August heavy-truck wholesale ≈ 83,000 units (−9.4% YoY) — second consecutive YoY decline on the high 2025 trade-in base; month-on-month ≈ −1%.
-
Exports remain the stabilizer: August heavy-truck exports are expected to grow more than 35% YoY. NEV and exports are the twin structural engines; July NEV-heavy-truck terminal penetration hit 47.25%, a 2026 high.
-
Sinotruk: H1 revenue RMB 38.41B (+46.82%), net profit RMB 973M (+45.48%); international subsidiary accounts for more than half of group sales; Jan–Jul group heavy-truck sales 218,700 (+27%) with 29.4% market share — 21 consecutive years as China's heavy-truck export champion.
-
FAW Jiefang: H1 net profit guided RMB 270–320M (+1,273%–1,528% YoY) on export and product-mix gains.
3. Electric Drive Axles: From Option to Default
-
Market scale-up: the 2026 global commercial-vehicle e-axle market is forecast at US$18.76B (+31.0%); NEV CV production exceeds 2.1M units with more than 68% e-axle fitment, driving demand of ≈1.43M sets — China alone ≈835K sets.
-
Technology mix: coaxial integrated e-axles hold ~46.2% share in 4.5–12 t urban logistics and sanitation vehicles; wheel-side (distributed) e-axles are the fastest-growing segment at 117K sets (+58.4%) for heavy trucks and mining trucks.
-
Frontier targets: power density 6.5 kW/kg, system efficiency >94%, weight −22% vs 2020; high-speed oil-cooled motors, integrated thermal management and power-module packaging top the patent landscape (47K active families by June 2026).
-
Sinotruk's self-developed heavy-truck e-axle (IAA showcase): peak power 470 kW, peak torque 44,000 N·m, efficiency up to 94.44%.
-
Localization race: ZF's coaxial e-drive "SELECT" platform (800V, up to 300 kW / 5,000 N·m) has won programs at two domestic OEMs as Jiaxing becomes its only CV electrification R&D center outside Germany; domestic suppliers HanDe Axle (H1 e-axle sales +42%), 万里扬 and 绿控传动 are scaling parallel lines.
4. Lightweighting: Integrated Casting Enters Commercial Vehicles
-
Gigacasting scale: the 2026 global integrated-casting market will exceed US$42B (+26.8%); ~240 super-large (6,000 t+) machines in service by end-2026; third-generation heat-treatment-free recyclable aluminum alloys cut part cost 18–25%.
-
CV entry point: integrated casting is being piloted in heavy-truck cross-members and NEV bus frames — Q1 2026 CV integrated-casting shipments grew 210% YoY from a low base; battery trays (+75% growth in 2026) are the second-largest application.
-
Axle relevance: monobloc-cast axle housings deliver 10–20% weight reduction and 10–15% cost reduction while eliminating weld-fatigue risk — a natural fit for e-axle integration, gradually replacing stamped-welded housings.
-
Compliance driver: EU carbon documentation rules (CBAM/EPD) applying to CV exports from 2026 make lightweighting both an economics and a compliance issue for Chinese suppliers.
5. IAA Transportation 2026 Preview: China's Value Chain Goes to Hannover
-
Scale: 1,700+ exhibitors from 50+ countries; 460+ Chinese exhibitors form the largest single international group (one in five exhibitors); "IAA China Day" on Sept 16; theme "We Deliver".
-
Shandong Heavy Industry group pavilion — "Powering All, Delivering One":
-
Sinotruk: five SITRAK models including a new 4×2 BEV tractor (500+ km range, ~110 kWh/100 km, 20–80% charge in 30 min), plus its self-developed heavy-truck e-axle, battery pack, smart cabin and an integrated PV-wind-storage-charge-swap energy solution (102 stations built globally); >100K NEV CVs delivered to 50+ countries; truck assembly with Steyr in Austria marks its EU localization entry.
-
HanDe Axle: six axle assemblies for tractors, trailers, light/medium trucks and telescopic handlers — new-energy and conventional, engineered for high torque, efficiency, low weight and extended maintenance intervals.
-
Weichai Power: 18 exhibits spanning high-efficiency ICE, hybrid, hydrogen, batteries and electric drive systems.
-
Other Chinese OEMs: FAW Jiefang (5 vehicles + 9 core assemblies across diesel/CNG/hydrogen/BEV/hybrid), Dongfeng (three hydrogen vehicles + 400 kW fuel-cell global debut), Foton, BYD, SANY, SAIC Maxus, Skyworth, Chery CV, JAC CV and NEV startups Windrose and SuperPanther; Huawei Digital Power and TELD bring megawatt charging and charging-network ecosystems — the shift from "product export" to "ecosystem export".
6. What This Means for the Axle Supply Chain
-
Export mix is upgrading toward NEV and premium models — Chery's NEV exports (+124% in Aug), Foton's NEV (+50%) and BYD's volumes all raise front-axle and e-axle spec content, with homologation demands multiplying across Europe, ASEAN, Latin America and Africa.
-
E-axle fitment is becoming the default (>68% of NEV CVs in 2026E) — suppliers without integrated e-axle co-development capability risk losing the highest-value share; wheel-side e-axle (+58%) opens a new distributed-drive niche.
-
Lightweighting is now compliance plus economics — integrated casting and aluminum/multi-material housings cut mass 10–20% and prepare suppliers for EU EPD/CBAM carbon documentation.
-
IAA 2026 sets the 2027 platform agenda — axle suppliers should align development roadmaps with OEM Europe-bound programs and aftermarket localization needs.
