The axle business is the first line to fall when domestic truck volume drops. Sinotruk (SZSE 000951), in its Q3 report of October 29, 2026, put January-September axle profit at RMB 1.414 billion, about half of group profit, but Q3 alone was RMB 357 million, 32 percent under the H1 quarterly average.
Axle Profit Grew Twice as Fast as Trucks
Q1-Q3 revenue was RMB 53.497 billion, up 32.1 percent, and net profit RMB 1.441 billion, up 37.2 percent. Jinan Axle is 49 percent minority-held; minority interest of RMB 693 million back-solves axle net profit at RMB 1.414 billion, of which RMB 721 million is attributable. Axle profit grew 59.3 percent against 37.2 percent for the group.
Q3 Volume Slip Took Axle Profit With It
Q3 revenue was RMB 15.086 billion, up 5.3 percent year on year but down 19.5 percent from Q2, and Q3 net profit RMB 468 million, up 22.8 percent but down 9.6 percent sequentially. The group sold 36,600 new-energy heavy trucks in nine months, up 139 percent and first at 16.2 percent share, each carrying a richer e-axle than a mechanical drive axle.
FAW Jiefang Draws the Same Curve
FAW Jiefang (SZSE 000800), filing the same evening, reported Q1-Q3 revenue of RMB 51.185 billion, up 16.34 percent, and net profit of RMB 503 million, up 35.08 percent; Q3 revenue fell 14.47 percent and Q3 net profit fell 44.33 percent to RMB 196 million. Q3 gross margin rose to 8.65 percent, up 1.5 points year on year.
What It Changes for Front Axle and Drive Axle Orders
A 20 percent sequential drop in OEM revenue became a 32 percent drop in axle profit, so axle earnings carry about 1.5 times the volume elasticity of the truck business. Margin came from mix, not price - Aero, J6V Pro and J6E L2 tractors - so front axle and drive axle content rises on premium lines while standard 6x4 tractors shift to single-reduction drive axles.
Conclusion: Sinotruk and FAW Jiefang show that in the commercial vehicle axle business the e-axle premium lifts average selling price but does not remove the cycle; axle profit still moves about 1.5 times faster than truck revenue, so front axle and drive axle capacity planning must follow domestic wholesale mix, not electrification headlines.
