Front Axle Supply: One Maker Holds 52% of China, 22% Globally

Oct 27,2026

The electric transition did not remove the hardest part of a truck. On 26 October 2026 an industry report put one Hubei maker at 52 percent of China's front axle market and 22 percent worldwide, while October heavy truck demand stayed at 68,000 to 72,000 units. Front axle capacity, not motor power, now sets delivery dates.

One county, half of China's front axles

Hubei Sanhuan Axle, based in Gucheng county, Hubei, was founded in 1951 and has built front axles since the 1970s. It reports 22 percent of the international market and 52 percent of the domestic front axle market, supplying leading global vehicle makers, and holds 20,000 to 30,000 tonnes of steel in a peak year.

Automation reaches the forge

A new plant enters service with lines upgraded to full automation, while the company develops e-axle products for battery-electric trucks. Gucheng targets a 50 billion yuan auto parts cluster. Output is set by forging, heat treatment and fatigue testing, so capacity cannot be added in a quarter.

October demand is soft, the mix is not

Zhuochuang Consulting forecast on 20 October 2026 that October heavy truck retail would reach 68,000 to 72,000 units, up 3 to 9 percent month on month but down double digits year on year on weak freight and pre-buying ahead of the AEBS rule. New energy and LNG trucks displaced 5.6852 million tonnes of diesel in September, 28.92 percent of diesel use.

The front axle is being redesigned anyway

Foton's Aiyike unit said on 22 October 2026 that its 800V e-axle delivers 380 kW and 33,500 Nm, 97.7 percent peak efficiency, a 1.6 million km B10 life and a 600,000 km oil change; its 4.5 tonne light e-axle exceeds 93 percent efficiency with maintenance-free wheel ends. Dongfeng Dana Axle and Dongfeng Longqing met on 14 October to bundle axles with powertrains for overseas tenders.

What to verify before ordering

Zhucheng Yihe Axle Co., Ltd., a front axle and drive axle supplier in Shandong, asks four questions: is the beam forged and heat treated in house, what fatigue cycles back the rating, what is the real oil change interval, and how fast parts reach the market.

Bottom line

Through 2027 front axle capacity and fatigue validation, not motor power, will decide which suppliers can deliver a commercial vehicle axle on schedule.
