Measured Data Now Sets the Bar for the Commercial Vehicle Axle

Oct 26,2026

For twenty years China's truck industry argued over catalogue figures. On 19 October 2026 the 2027 China Commercial Vehicle Product Test opened at the Dazu base of China Automotive Engineering Research Institute (CAERI) in Chongqing with one question: what does the truck actually consume on the road? For the commercial vehicle axle, that demotes peak torque and promotes measured driveline loss.

A twenty-year test moves to measured data

Run by CAERI and China Automotive News since 2007, the programme has completed nineteen editions and revised its protocol more than ten times. New-energy commercial vehicles sold 893,000 units in January-September 2026, up 41.7 percent, with domestic penetration at 35.2 percent and 46.6 percent in September. Results are due at the end of November 2026.

The numbers the test now works against

CAAM figures quoted at the opening set the coordinates: commercial vehicle production and sales reached 3.279 million and 3.311 million units in the first nine months, up 6.1 and 6.2 percent, while exports reached 1.039 million units, up 38.8 percent and close to the whole of 2025. Volume is no longer contested; what each axle costs per 100 km is.

An independent e-axle maker sells on output

Shenzhen Zhiyuan Power was reported on 23 October 2026 as a Future Industry Star emerging enterprise at the Future Industries Zone of the 2026 Hong Kong Electronics Fair, opened on 13 October. Its in-differential suspended motor drive axle, the Zhiyuan e-axle 5.0, claims over 80 percent more range on the same battery capacity and over 20 percent lower vehicle cost at equal range. Chengli Xingchi AE49 tractors fitted with it have entered road testing with more than 1,600 sets ordered.

Shandong shows where the supply chain ships

Qingdao Customs said on 21 October 2026 that Shandong exported 371,000 vehicles in the first three quarters, up 53.1 percent. Commercial vehicle exports reached 53.95 billion yuan, up 39.9 percent and about a quarter of the national total; auto parts exports passed 100 billion yuan. Africa grew 56.2 percent and ASEAN 59.7 percent.

What Yihe Axle reads from it

Zhucheng Yihe Axle Co., Ltd. reads one rule from the week: publish measured numbers. Driveline efficiency, oil-change interval and kilograms saved must sit on the datasheet, because fleets buying at 46.6 percent new-energy penetration check a front axle and a drive axle against a test report, not a brochure.

Bottom line

From late 2026 a commercial vehicle axle is bought on measured driveline efficiency and verified maintenance cost per 100,000 km, not on the peak torque printed in the catalogue.
