ZHUCHENG, China, October 8, 2026 — September ran China's heavy truck market at two speeds: wholesale near 95,000 units, about 10% below a year earlier, while new-energy heavy trucks passed 30,000. Conventional drive axle volumes slide, e-axle volumes compound, and every commercial vehicle axle programme must price that split.
September split the market in two. First Commercial Vehicle Network preliminaries on October 8 put September wholesale near 95,000 units against 106,000 a year earlier, down about 10% but up about 10% on August; nine months reached about 926,000, up 13%. Beidou counted 30,960 new-energy heavy trucks for the month, up 40.83%, and 207,522 year to date, up 66.78%.
Why the combustion line is falling. September was a third straight decline, caused at once by weak road freight rates, a high base left by last year's scrappage scheme, an AEBS rule switch that pulled buying into the second quarter, destocking, and dearer diesel and LNG.
Three bodies carry the growth. Of 207,522 new-energy heavy trucks registered in nine months, tractors took 76.95%, dump trucks 12.99% and mixers 8.24%. Electric dump trucks added 2,956 units in September, up 30% year on year, and are up 87.3% year to date, largely on mine, port and steel-plant rounds.
Mining duty rewrites drive axle specs. In late September SANY launched its Fuyo powertrain for loaded mining slopes: a silicon-carbide six-in-one controller, a thousand-horsepower-class hairpin motor and a 3,500 Nm gearbox, reporting three extra trips per shift and 11.7 kWh saved per 100 km. There low-speed torque and heat rejection decide uptime, not headline power.
Two plans for Yihe Axle. Zhucheng Yihe Axle Co., Ltd. builds front axles and drive axles for commercial vehicles. One holds cost discipline on conventional work through a destocking year; the other qualifies front axle, drive axle and e-axle programmes for the growing bodies, where housing strength, wheel-end sealing and service intervals win repeat orders.
The takeaway: China sold about 95,000 heavy trucks in September 2026, roughly 10% fewer than a year earlier, yet over 30,000 were new-energy units up about 40%, so a 2027 commercial vehicle axle plan built on either line alone will misprice itself.
