Foton Unveils 3040 Overseas Strategy: Targeting 400,000 Units by 2030 with 30% NEV Share

Industry News · September 3, 2026

H1 2026 Performance Highlights

Foton Motor held its 2026 Brand Day and new-product launch on August 28 at the Foton X-Lab. The event showcased the company's three-pronged transformation strategy and revealed strong commercial results for the first half of the year.

Sub-brand breakdown (H1 2026): Auman heavy truck +65.1% · Auhark-Oumaco medium/light +106.3% · Pickup +38.2% · Au Hui (bus) +38.5% · Tuno (van) +28.8%.

The "3040 Strategy" — Official Target

Foton formally unveiled its overseas growth plan with two headline numbers:

  • 2030 overseas annual sales target: 400,000 units
  • NEV share of overseas sales by 2030: 30%

Based on H1 momentum (+39% YoY), Foton management indicated the 400,000-unit target may be reached ahead of schedule.

"Three Trump Cards" — Strategic Pillars

  1. Full Internationalization (全面国际化) — Move from product export to systemic overseas presence.
  2. Full New-Energy Transformation (全面新能源化) — Make NEVs the core of overseas growth.
  3. Full Intelligentization (全面智能化) — Commercial-vehicle intelligent driving at scale.

New Product Launches at Brand Day

1. Galaxus R9 — Premium Heavy Truck Enters the Americas

The Galaxus R9, Foton's flagship premium heavy truck, has formally entered the Americas market. To verify real-world durability, Foton launched a Pan-America extreme road test covering 7 countries, 19 cities, and 15,000 km, running through high-altitude, desert, rainforest, and coastal conditions.

2. Cavon StarSea (卡文星海) — NEV Luxury Flagship Heavy Truck

Cavon StarSea targets the strategic high ground of medium- and long-haul trunk logistics (300+ km single leg), addressing thermal, range, and TCO challenges that have limited battery-electric heavy trucks to short-haul duty cycles. Combined with the Auman Galaxy (欧曼银河), it forms Foton's heavy-truck "Twin Stars" lineup — Galaxy for full-scenario coverage, StarSea for trunk-logistics depth.

3. Cavon Lofu V7 MPVan — Global Debut

The V7 MPV fills Foton's product gap in the high-end business passenger segment and supports the brand's expansion into premium passenger-commercial crossover markets.

4. Cangqiong Zhijia (苍穹智驾) Intelligent Driving Platform

Foton's tiered intelligent-driving architecture was formally released:

  • Cangqiong A — full-scenario end-to-end L4 unmanned driving
  • Cangqiong B — highway + urban human-machine co-driving
  • Cangqiong C — closed-scene unmanned solutions (ports, mines)

Global Manufacturing & Distribution Footprint

What This Means for the Axle Supply Chain

  • Sustained demand through 2030: The 400,000-unit overseas target translates into a multi-year axle order pipeline, with the bulk of growth in heavy-truck and NEV segments where axle specifications are most demanding.
  • Galaxus R9 / Cavon StarSea = premium heavy-truck axle spec: Integrated e-axle and high-power electric drive architectures require new axle housings, hub reduction units, and thermal-management integration. Suppliers with e-axle co-development capability capture the highest value.
  • Multi-regional homologation pressure: With 32 plants and 140+ markets, axle components must support varying axle-load regulations, emissions rules, and road conditions across Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
  • Aftermarket upside: 1,200+ overseas service points plus an installed base growing at +39% YoY create a structurally expanding aftermarket axle and component-replacement business.
  • Tier-1 NEV CV race: Shacman's launch of the Hande 3-in-1 e-axle-equipped S300 Express (Aug 29) confirms e-axles are now mandatory across major Chinese CV brands. Foton's NEV-heavy 2030 mix will accelerate similar axle architecture shifts.

Outlook

Foton's 3040 strategy reframes China's commercial vehicle export narrative: from "low-cost alternatives for emerging markets" to "technology-led premium brands competing globally." Axle and component suppliers positioned at the front of this transition — with BEV-ready platforms, multi-region certification, and aftermarket depth — will define the next decade of China's CV supply chain.
